On March 21 we celebrated the grand opening of Casa de Noche Buena, the area's first homeless shelter for women and families with children, with an online event featuring performances by jazz artists Tammi Brown and Amina Figarova. Click here to view a recording of the event!
Message from the Executive Director
It is hard to believe that over a year has passed since a pandemic shut down the world. We have been humbled by the outpouring of support from generous donors that helped us get through this difficult period. Continued community support enables us to keep providing nutritious meals, and access to warm showers and clean clothing, as well as access to mental healthcare providers and case management. Through our partnerships with other homeless service providers, our case managers helped place 40 guests in temporary shelters and 13 in permanent houses last year. We also are proud of our partnership with Community Human Services, opening “Casa de Noche Buena” earlier this year. This 90-day shelter for homeless women and families with children is the first of its kind on the Monterey Peninsula.
With the lessoning of restrictions, we have started to bring back our enrichment programs. Guests are now enjoying a chair yoga and mindfulness class, foot massage, journaling, and acrylic painting, and over the coming weeks we will start seminars to increase access to employment. It is so nice to begin to feel a little more like we used to! Now we look forward to brighter days and even more women finding their path out of homelessness.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
