Casa de Noche Buena: A Homeless Shelter for Women and Families with Children

Gathering for Women - Monterey and Community Human Services partnered to open Casa de Noche Buena in Seaside, the first homeless shelter for women and families with children on the Monterey Peninsula. The shelter is currently able to accommodate 15-18 people, depending on the number and ages of children. This number is expected to double to 30-36 once COVID-19 social distancing guidelines have been eased.

We welcomed our first guests in January 2021.

Services

Casa de Noche Buena (CDNB) is a low barrier emergency shelter for single women and families with children. Length of stay is limited to 90 days. Stays may be extended for up to 6 months total with appropriate justification. Case Managers work with guests to set and achieve their personal goals for housing, income, employment, education, and other areas that support a successful exit from homelessness. Housing navigation, employment assistance, life skills education, referral to ancillary services and other assistance is available. Children-specific activities include tutoring and homework help, as well as arts and crafts, games, books, movies, TV shows, story time, outdoor play area, etc. Amenities include meals, full baths, laundry, mail service, computers, and internet access. Guests are assigned a room for the duration of their stay and may leave their belongings in their room. Women may share a double room. Families will have their own room. Cribs or toddler beds are available upon request.
