The History of Gathering for WomenGathering for Women - Monterey is a non-profit organization serving homeless women on the Monterey Peninsula. It was launched on April 1, 2014, when a group of compassionate men and women believed that they could make a difference in the lives of the over 500 homeless women living in our community. The organization started by offering a weekly hot lunch at San Carlos Cathedral Hall. Over the course of two years, the services offered grew to include clothing, emergency assistance, resource referrals and vouchers for gas and bus. In March of 2016, Gathering for Women opened a Service Center near downtown Monterey where women could access services three days a week. On June 25, 2018, Gathering for Women opened its Day Center just down the street from its former Service Center. The Day Center buildings were purchased and renovated through the generous donations of the community to Gathering’s Capital Campaign. Gathering for Women - Monterey is truly a community effort, evidenced by our more than 200 volunteers, and a large group of committed supporters. Together, we can make a difference.
